Re: 2544 Mock UNIT 4 paper exam boundaries

Please be aware that these are boundaries which have been suggested by one or two of our senior examiners by looking at the questions and assessing which marks they would expect to be picked up by F grade students, C grade students and A grade students (all others are calculated arithmetically). If such a method was a precise science, we could set grade boundaries as the papers were set, but it isn’t. At an Awarding meeting, many examiners carefully consider students’ responses over four or five days, armed with lost of data about cohorts, estimated grades, KS3 results, common questions, individual question data, etc – none of that is available when suggesting boundaries for mock papers. Thus do be prepared to use your professional judgement of your students’ abilities when using these. Owing to shift of emphasis on question demand brought about by new GCSE subject criteria, we do expect grade boundaries to be higher than they have been in the past under the three-tier system.
