If you are having trouble finding the files, you might be looking in the wrong place.  The link from the ICT page on the main Edxcel site that says Pre-release materials doesn't lead to them even if you put in your Edexcel online user details.

Instead, go to the main Edexcel Online log in page

    http://www.edexcelonline.co.uk/EIE/main/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2feie%2fDefault.aspx

and log in there.  Then choose GCE from the top menu.  You will find the files there.

How much we will be allowed to discuss the Pre Release model on here? I have just started playing with it - and it is fun!  But I have a few questions I want to ask?

I think I would hesitate putting too much detail onto sites like TES as these are known to have student membership but I would have thought it might be OK here.

I have a problem already with the model.  My understanding is that although the students have the pasword to unlock the model to investigate how it works, it shouldn't be necessary to unlock it in order to use it.

However, on the model we received today there is a formula in the sheet called Stampede that directly links to cell D3 in the Results sheet.  Cell D3 in the results sheet is empty and is also locked so will not contain anything.  This seems strange. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Please bear in mind that although you have to be registered to contribute, the content of these forums is public and therefore potentially open to students so you will need to exercise caution in any discussions you have.
Going forward, it's likely we'll trial closed forums that only allow registered users to view and these would be where that sort of discussion could be more appropriate.

Perhaps we should exchange email addresses - so we can discuss off forum?  sue.crawte@gmail.com

    Afternoon,

The datafiles are available on Edexcel Online.  You can log in with the same username and password as you use for these forums.  Once logged in, click the quaification tab for either GCE or GCSE at the top and there are links to download the datafiles on the next page you get to.

I was advised against discussing the solution to the Model on the TES forum and indeed on here.  However it would seem that there is now a full discussion of it on TES forum!

Some of us have been communicating off forums.

To encourage my students to work independently- we are having a competition to see who can come up with the highest thrill factor!  I have also provided them with the ride images so that they can drag and drop to build their ride!  We are then sticking them on the wall!

I must say that this is probably the most exciting scenario Edexcel have come up with and it seems that the students are really enjoying working with it.  It is also very reasonable to think that they might actually come up with some actual improvement to it - seeing as it hasnt taken that long to work out how to use it - this time!  (unlike Twisted Pear & Markers Farm)

    Hi all.

    I've been asked to post this clarification notice by the Qualification Delivery and Awards Manager for ICT regarding the BBG_Practice.xls file;

"In the spreadsheet model BBG_practice.xls cell D3 is locked. Candidates should be advised that they can unlock and change the contents of this cell (password edexcel) without affecting the functioning of the model."

    Hope that's clear.

I'm having issues with the model and the files. Two of the files are identical and I get a N/A for Climb when I put it into the results sheet. Anybody willing to communicate by email and help me out - and I will also share some really useful stuff I had from some recent courses. I love the idea about the rides on the wall by the way! Shall do that for sure (as for not enough time - as Eid may have crept forward to Wednesday we have even less time!)

URGENT!! Pre-release materials for unit 3 URGENT!!

    HI all,

I'm an ICT teacher, working on Uint 3 (January 2008).

I am scared to mention that I have not yet got the data files (practice .xls and .txt) except the scenario, I and my examinations officer for the centre tried several times though!

When I click on the link pre-release material in Applied ICT area it takes me to edexcel online but once logged in, there is no such documents to be found in GCE tab. I tried the link mentioned above, still the result is same!

Can any of you guys kindly forward me the .xls file and 3 .txt files to my e-mail? Then my kiddos can start practicing.

    mailme_fendo@hotmail.com

    Regards!
