    Additional Structured exams

    Hi

Has anyone entered Year 11 for the structured paper on the 13th of November for B2,C2 and P2? If so what were your thoughts? It was a lot harder than the sample paper provided by Edexcel.

If you are doing the structured paper...will you be comparing this mark to marks achieved on CDA and taking the best mark? It will be interesting to see what the grades are like compared to the multiple choice

    Hi Rajinder,

I agree that the actual exam paper was significantly harder than the sample papers, but this is always the frustrating situation with a new course - there are no past papers to go off as an example!!  Were your pupils entered for all 3 papers during that exam sitting, ie. do you now have copies of a B2, C2 and P2 paper that you can now use in the future? If not I would be willing to send you a paper copy through the post because we had selections of kids doing all 3.

We are entering all kids for both exams and then also doing the CDA with them - we will then be taking the best combination of marks for each kid.  A lot of work, but because we are unsure of how it will all work out we are hoping it will be worth it!

Hi Sam Yes please.  Can you send me copies of the C2 multiple choice and Structured papers for Nov 07 and C1a and C1b if you have them as I'm trying to put a mock together.  Can you post them to me at Perse Girls School, Union Road, Cambridge.  CB2 1HF.  FAO Head of  Chemistry.

    Thank you

    Re: Additional Structured exams

    Hi Sam,

The assessment for this course is like running a hurdle race blindfolded where all the hurdles are different heights.  You are also blindfolded and no one is telling you how high you have to jump to pass or achieve a particular grade.  I think it is ludicrous that Edexcel have not yet put the November Additonal Science papers on the website.  Your comments suggest that the specimen papers, which are all we have got, are more or less useless as an indicator of the expected standard.  We would be very grateful if you could send us a set of module and structured papers for Nov 07 B2,C2 and P2 units.

Yes it is very pleasing that these exams will be able to be downloaded.  But for how long?  Most exam boards are now publishing past papers from previous years so that teachers can make use of them.  But Edexcel only have then available for a limited time then the only way of obtaining them is by buying them.  Why don't Edexcel follow the same policy as the other exam boards?

    Re: Additional Structured exams

We will be making past papers from the last three years' examination sessions available to staff at centres for as long as they are needed at no charge. This is a new service and brings us into line with the other boards. More details will be available later this week.

    I agree, they were difficult.

Looking at C2 - Did you know that they needed to know how buckminster fullerine conducts electricity!

    Hi Sam

It would be great to have a copy of the structured exam papers... we have the multiple choice already. In particular the Higher paper for Physics Additional. Do you have a copy of that from the November exams? If so could you send me a copy...:

    Hi all.

Edexcel centres can now order past papers for free from our website at http://eiewebvip.edexcel.org.uk/pastpapers/ so you may not need to send hard copies to each other.

    Dear Tom,

The past papers have been labelled incorrectly.

The Additional Science Papers are labelled as SCIENCE P1B: HIGHER ACCUMULATOR?

Therefore it seems as though there are no Additional Science past papers available, please amend it to avoid confusion!

Thanks Tom, that saves me having to ask for people to post them.

I agree the labelling has made it confusing!

What are peoples genral opnion of the CDA compared to the structured exams? I suppose the results will tell all!

Sorry that you're finding the labelling confusing. I think it's tricky with these science papers because they are common for more than one unit, but I'll feed this back and see what we can do.

     Dear Tom

The solution is simple, if you indicate the correct the unit name, such as B2 Structured Paper : Higher

At the moment all Additional Science Papers are labelled P1b? Which isn't an Additional Science Unit, its a GCSE Science unit!!!

    Thanks
